Another upset puts Shelby Rogers in the US Open quarterfinals

American Jennifer Brady, who sent three-time grand slam victor Angelique Kerber packing in straight sets on Sunday, will face Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva in the other women's quarterfinal on Osaka's side of the draw.

With Jennifer Brady upsetting Angelique Kerber, and second seed Sofia Kenin and third seed Serena Williams playing in the fourth round on Monday, the U.S. could have as many as four women in the quarterfinals.

Shelby Rogers reached the last eight of her home Grand Slam tournament on Sunday, saving four match points to defeat sixth seed Petra Kvitova and reach the last eight at the US Open.

Awaiting Osaka is Rogers, who saved four match points in a memorable 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 7-6 (8-6) triumph. It's Rogers' second Grand Slam quarterfinal overall and first at Flushing Meadows. "Just sticking with it, trusting the team I had around me, telling me I could do it, sticking with it. Starting the year ranked 174, I thought of myself as a higher-ranked player".

"For me, that's definitely like a warning to never do that". "Let's see how far she can get here, but for sure she can get far".

She had failed to get past the first round in her last two outings.

The statistics say it all; Kontaveit's first service success rate was 46 percent in the first set and 59 percent across the entire encounter, compared with 71 percent for Osaka.

Coronavirus: 307 new cases and one further death in Republic
Do not underestimate the risks associated with any of your interactions, including with your family, friends or work colleagues. More than half of the confirmed cases were in Dublin, including "at least 44" said to be community transmission cases.

Either 2018 champion and fourth seed Naomi Osaka or 14th seed Anett Kontaveit await in the last eight for Rogers, who will be hoping to reach a first major semifinal.

Rogers has won all three of her previous meetings with Kvitova, with two of them coming at the ITF level.

Alize Cornet of France reached the fourth round of the US Open for the first time, giving her another chance for that elusive first berth in a Grand Slam quarterfinal.

"I think she has a great serve and she's a good returner".

The last 13 Grand Slam men's titles have been won by Djokovic (five), Rafael Nadal (five) or Roger Federer (three). "For me, it was really important, like, the turnaround time and my attitude to be very positive".

Aware that Djokovic had been sent packing after losing his cool mid-match against Pablo Carreno Busta, Osaka was mindful of keeping her emotions in check.

It marked the first time Brady had made the fourth round at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in NY since 2017.
