'Kojak' and 'Knots Landing' Star Kevin Dobson Dead at 77

The actor was best known for his roles in CBS dramas Knot Landing and Kojak, as well as appearing on Days of Our Lives.

The United Veterans Council of San Joaquin County announced the actor's death on Facebook.

The actor was born on March 18 in 1943 in Jackson Heights, New York, and began his working career as a trainman, brakeman, and a conductor on the Long Island Railroad.

The actor's first big break into the industry was as Govorner Harrison Brooks in the TV series One Life to Live in 1968.

He got his foot in the door with a small appearance in the classic '70s noir flick Klute starring Jane Fonda, before landing further acting roles in television. After his breakthrough, Dobson starred in a handful of other TV series including The Doctors, The Rookies, Emergency! and Stranded.

Back in 1973, Kevin first gained fame from his role as Detective Bobby Crocker on the CBS cop series Kojak. In the Golden Globe-nominated show Dobson acted with Michele Lee, Nicollette Sheridan and Ted Shackelford.

The army veteran has also appeared in several movies, including Midway, 1408, All Night Long and She's No Angel.

For his role as Mack MacKenzie on Knots Landing, Kevin won five Soap Opera Digest awards.

Among his most recent credits are Dark Power, Days of Our Lives, Hawaii Five-0 and House of Lies.

Kevin portrayed Mickey Horton on Days of Our Lives for 15 episodes in 2008, following portrayals by John Ingle (2004-2006), Richard Voigts (2004), and John Clarke (1965-2004). He appeared in almost 300 episodes, and stayed with the series for the duration of its 14-year run.

Dobson is survived by his wife Susan, children Mariah, Patrick and Sean, and several grandchildren.
