Labor Day gas prices are set to be lowest since 2004

Gas prices ahead of Labor Day are at their lowest since 2004, according to GasBuddy.

The company predicts a national average of $2.19 per gallon down almost 37 cents from previous year.

Gas Buddy reported the national average for the lowest-priced gas price on Labor Day was $1.82 per gallon in 2004. That is 49 cents lower than this time past year.

And with refineries returning to service after Hurricane Laura, De Haan noted that prices are falling again just in time for the holiday weekend. The average price for gasoline in Teton Valley, Idaho has remained $2.49 a gallon this week.

"We forecasted that more than 700 million Americans would take trips this summer with 97 percent of those being road trips", said Michigan Spokesperson for AAA Adrienne Woodland. However, COVID-19 has made everything more fluid and less predictable. The least expensive is in Lansing, Traverse City and Grand Rapids.
