AstraZeneca's decision to place the trial on hold comes after a pledge from nine leading U.S. and European vaccine developers on Tuesday to uphold scientific safety and efficacy standards for their vaccines despite the urgency to contain the pandemic.

AstraZeneca's clinical hold has now influenced researchers in competing trials to go through their own research, to locate any potential reactions in their studies, STAT also reported.

Among the companies, Moderna and Pfizer are in the most advanced stages of their trials, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has asked states to have distribution networks ready by November 1.

If the goal is to make people feel safer about a future vaccine, it seems unwise to make a big deal out of vague shit like making patient safety a "top priority".

For ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, clinical trial volunteers are located in countries across five continents: the UK, Brazil, South Africa, the United States and India. This and other patterns in the data present "several different points of concern", according to an open letter written by Temple University professor Enrico Bucci and signed by more than a dozen other scientists.

Meanwhile, March for Our Lives tweeted a warning: "a triggering video circulating @tiktok_us of a man committing suicide using a shotgun".

In the U.S., the worst-hit country by the virus, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Chief Stephen Hahn said August 30 he could consider fast tracking a vaccine before conclusion of its Phase III trials.

An AstraZeneca spokesperson confirmed the pause in vaccinations covers studies in the USA and other countries.

"Acknowledging that CSL is the only company in Australia with manufacturing facilities capable of producing this vaccine, we thank the Australian Government for their support, ensuring Australia has access to onshore COVID-19 vaccine production and supply".

The announcement of Sputnik V vaccine, developed by Moscow's Gamaleya Institute, sent the Western scientific community into a tizzy. It was the only healthcare system in MI among the 90 selected for trials across the country. Phase-1 and phase-2 trials were completed in less than two months and, it now emerges, were done on only 76 people. He said "We want it to be known that also in the current situation we are not willing to compromise safety and efficacy".

The pledge by the nine biopharma leaders on Tuesday suggests that they would not seek premature approval for their Covid-19 vaccine. A typical vaccine trial takes one to three years, but the companies believe only a safe and effective vaccine will be granted approval.
