PUBG Ban Impact: Tencent loses $ 34 Billion in market cap as India blocks the Chinese gaming app

PUBG said on Tuesday Chinese giant Tencent Games will no longer be the publishing partner of the popular game in India as it attempts to allay concerns of New Delhi, which banned the game and 117 other apps last week.

The title, the most popular mobile game in the country to date, said it is "actively monitoring the situation around the recent bans" and is committed to engaging with its passionate player base in India.

If you are excited about PUBG Mobile still working despite being banned in India, don't be so sure.

This was the first of its kind protest when players hit streets against the center's decision to ban the online mobile game PUBG following a protracted standoff between two neighboring countries. The government ban order cites that the game is a security risk to the country and is apparently a tool for the Chinese government to steal data from India. As such, if PUBG Corp. succeeds in what it's aiming for here, the Indian government could unban the game since it will no longer be affiliated with a Chinese publisher/developer. PUBG Corporation is a subsidiary of Krafton Game Union, a South Korean video game company.

Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within India. The company, in its official statement, has said that it will work with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to continue playing the battle royale mobile game.

It's important to note that Tencent games had moved its servers for Indian players to India in order to comply with the government's regulations. Millions of players were surprised, shocked and in dismay when their favorite mobile game's fate was sealed in India. In addition to regular content updates, the company is exploring different ways to engage its community in India through various region-based activities, including esports and community events.

The PUBG game, which has more than 600 million downloads and 50 million active players globally, has almost 33 million users in India.
