Rayman Creator Michel Ancel Says He's Quit Video Games to Open a Wildlife Sanctuary

Rayman creator and long-time video game developer Michel Ancel has announced that he is leaving the video game industry in order to open a wildlife sanctuary.

Ancel goes on to say that his departure won't have any effect on Wild or Beyond Good & Evil 2, and that the teams on the projects have been "autonomous" for some time now.

Making the announcement on his personal Instagram account, Ancel said "today is very special for me". He's taking leave after more than 30 years in the business to focus on another passion-wildlife. Progress on both projects is going "super well", with "beautiful new things" coming soon for the two games. He'll be starting a "new project" in the form of an open wildlife sanctuary dedicated to education, nature lovers, and wild animals.

Following the retirement of director Michel Ancel from the games industry, senior producer Guillaume Brunier provided an update on the game, reassuring fans that the BG&E director hasn't been directly involved in the game for some time, and explaining that the game has passed important internal milestones. His uncompromising passion pushed us to redefine what was possible in crafting an expansive, multicultural, and futuristic science-fiction world. Hopefully by this time next year, we'll have seen some of the game in action and perhaps even have an idea of when it will release. The team also states that it understands fans want to see more of the game and the current plan is to show more in 2021 as long as certain production milestons are passed.

NCAA D1 Council proposes framework for fall sports in spring
The Division I men's and women's championships will take place on March 15, according to the release. If health conditions allow for spring competition, the regular season would start in late February.

"We know many of you are eager to hear more from the team, get more detail on the story and universe, and try out the gameplay", says Brunier. "As we move forward, we are all committed to remaining true to this vision".

That is dependent on the team passing its internal production milestone, though.

The team is expanding as it ramps up work, adding folks from Ubisoft Paris into the mix, and posting a couple of new job listings on the Ubisoft careers site.
