Second stimulus check: Republicans unveil coronavirus relief bill; Is second stimulus included?

Included in the bill is $10 billion for the U.S. Postal Service, which is girding for a large number of mail-in ballots for the November 3 presidential and congressional elections as a result of people fearful of voting in person because of the coronavirus pandemic.

U.S. Senate Republican leaders on Tuesday will introduce an approximately $300 billion coronavirus aid bill, according to senior aides, which Democrats promptly dismissed as insufficient for meeting the needs created by the pandemic.

Weekly supplemental unemployment benefits would resume at US$300, down from US$600 in the CARES Act that was approved in the spring. The measure would need 60 votes to pass, something deemed unlikely.

There were discussions between the White House and Democrat leaders over a "skinny" stimulus bill, but those talks fell through.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from NY, called the Republican proposal "emaciated" last week.

But it doesn't include an item many have been waiting for: a new direct stimulus payment to families, according to The Washington Post.

"With no money for rental assistance, no money for nutrition assistance, and no money for state and local services, the census, or safe elections, [McConnell] and Senate Republicans would be making another unacceptable and ineffective attempt at providing relief", he added.

And again, we just appreciate the teammate and the person that Nick is, just in regards to how he handled everything. The Bears infamously traded up to draft Trubisky No. 2 overall in 2017.

The Republican-controlled Senate proposed the $1 trillion HEALS Act during their last session, but Democrats don't believe it goes far enough.

McConnell confirmed the chamber will be voting on a "targeted" coronavirus relief bill as soon as this week.

White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows discusses ongoing stimulus negotiations on Capitol Hill and the issues facing the Trump administration.

The legislation, which Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted earlier Tuesday as a political stunt that didn't amount to a real effort to help the economy, also includes politically charged components such as greater use of tax-privilege funds for private school expenses.

Republicans and Democrats reached an impasse after they couldn't agree on the cost of the bill.
