Austria's Dominic Thiem steamed into his first US Open final after defeating Russia's Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (5).

"I won't change my mindset at all".

Thiem is definitely the favorite going into this afternoon's men's singles final, especially since he has beaten Zverev in seven out of their nine past matches.

Thiem has been to three Grand Slam finals and has not won any of them.

"It's the biggest goal and also the biggest dream I have in my tennis career", said Thiem of the carrot of a Grand Slam trophy. Nadal, the 2019 Open champion and victor of 19 Slam titles, opted not to travel to NY during a pandemic, staying home in Spain to train on his precious clay in preparation for the French Open, which was pushed back to late September from May because of the coronavirus. Roger Federer was also forced to sit out this year's competition due to two knee surgeries.

The turnaround was quite remarkable given that Zverev committed an astonishing 36 errors through the first two sets, but in the end he took the win with his second match point.

In the post-season, Edmundson added one goal in four games for the 'Canes, with his average ice-time jumping to 23:41. Louis Blues in 2018-19, posting seven points through 22 post-season tilts, while averaging 16:32 minutes per night.

Alexander Zverev overcame a listless start to secure a 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 6-3 US Open semi-final win over Pablo Carreno Busta.

The Austrian tennis player, second seeded, defeated this Friday by 6-2, 7-6 (7) and 7-6 (5) the Russian Daniil Medvedev, finalist past year, and got the pass for the first time in his career to the final of the American tournament. The last time that they competed against each other, Dominic Thiem won 3-6 6-4 7-6 7-6 in the semifinal in Melbourne (Australian Open) on the 31 of January 2020. Tiebreaks are mentally a tough thing.

Standing in his path to a maiden title is 23-year-old Zverev, who is out for revenge after losing to Thiem in their Australian Open semi-final earlier this year.

"It's huge pressure for both of us", Thiem said. Very big key game was 5-All second set where I saved I think four or five breakpoints.

Thiem, though, has won a tournament-best 40% of his return games. Medvedev entered their semifinal having lost just three service games through five matches - and Thiem equaled that total by the second set Friday.

One more win will make Thiem an actual Slam champ. The Russian entered the Thiem court area, something that is not allowed, and then took it with the supervisor ("The US Open is a joke; you don't do anything", he snapped). None of the three greatest tennis champions of this, or any other, era will be in Flushing Meadows on Sunday.

Serena's win-loss record at the US Open after winning the first set now stands at 98-3. "If not, I'll have to call Andy Murray and see how it is with 0-4".
