As well as the withdrawal from Iraq, he added that the administration might also announce a pull-out from Afghanistan.

During Tuesday's episode, McCain called the language purportedly used by the president while discussing his decision not to visit the graves of USA troops killed during World War I "familiar" to rhetoric he has used in the past when referring to her father, the late Sen.

"In recognition of the great progress the Iraqi forces have made and in consultation and coordination with the Government of Iraq and our coalition partners, the United States has chose to reduce our troop presence in Iraq from about 5,200 to 3,000 troops during the month of September", said Gen. Kenneth McKenzie in remarks Wednesday in Baghdad.

He promised that it would take place before the USA presidential vote.

"You know, Whoopi, I just feel like every three-to-six months I'm having a similar conversation with you where there's a report of President Trump disparaging troops or my family", McCain told her co-host Whoopi Goldberg when asked about the story.

However, the troop reduction announced by McKenzie is larger and will be carried in a much faster timeline than what USA officials had indicated just a few weeks ago.

On Tuesday, the Army's most senior official rejected that notion - while also claiming that he wasn't responding directly to the president's comments. 'We take this very, very seriously how we make our recommendations'.

Chelsea FC set to offer £20m for 28-year-old goalkeeper
Mendy's arrival will take Chelsea's summer spending close to £250m and they will look to offset such an outlay with outgoings. And the London outfit are not done yet with a goalkeeper and Declan Rice in Lampard's sights.

The United States has around 5,200 troops that were deployed in Iraq to fight the Islamic State militant group.

In July, the top USA general for the Middle East said he believed the US will keep a smaller but enduring presence in the country.

"This decision is due to our confidence in the Iraqi Security Forces' increased ability to operate independently".

Over the past year, dozens of rocket attacks have targeted those forces, the USA embassy and logistics convoys heading to Iraqi bases, killing at least six military personnel - three Americans, one Briton and two Iraqis.

Trump told reporters two weeks ago that 'we look forward to the day when we don´t have to be there'.

The United States withdrew troops from Afghanistan earlier this year, meeting an agreed upon target of 8,600.
