Trump says his Supreme Court choice will be a woman

The second female Supreme Court justice in US history and a champion for equal protection under law for women, Ginsburg was nominated to the bench by then President Bill Clinton in 1993 and over the years became the most senior liberal justice on the nation's highest court.

Early Saturday, Trump on Twitter called on the Senate to act "without delay".

The Maine Republican, who faces a tough reelection, added that Trump has the "constitutional authority" to nominate a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and that she does not have an objection to the Senate Judiciary Committee starting the process of reviewing the nominee.

Senior congressional Democrats raised the prospect of adding additional justices next year to counterbalance Trump's nominees if they win control of the White House and Senate in the November election.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said on Saturday that the Senate should not vote on the nomination of a new Supreme Court Justice before the November 3 election, arguing the nominee should be chosen by whoever wins the presidency. According to its real-time tracker, the platform saw a surge in donations following Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's announcement that he will move forward with a vote to replace Ginsburg.

Collins was a key vote in the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a vote that Democrats have seized on as they try to unseat the four-term senator.

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, a Republican who is not up for re-election this cycle, told local media on Friday, prior to Ginsburg's death, that she would not vote for a Supreme Court nominee so close to the election. "We are 50-some days away from an election".

He points out that McConnell's plan for a vote is a reversal of his 2016 decision to refuse to consider Merrick Garland, former President Barack Obama's nominee to the high court.

From 9-10 p.m. ET, more than $6.2 million was donated, breaking records in ActBlue's 16-year history. She is facing the toughest reelction campaign in her career.

"We want to respect the process".

"I don't think the president has any choice but to get the nominee put forth in front of the senate and ideally confirmed", says U.S. Senate candidate former 2nd District Republican Congressman Jason Lewis. "There is time for debate there is time for politics, but the time for now, is to pray for the family and to make sure that we keep their, their family in our hearts and prayers, as we mourn as a nation".

One Plus 8T might launch on 14th October
The other three sensors are expected to be the same - an 8 MP ultrawide shooter, a 2 MP macro camera , and 2 MP depth sensor. Talking about the display, the Nord N10 5G will feature a 6.49-inch display with a 90Hz refresh rate and an FHD+ resolution.

Susan Collins, the Republican senator from ME, said it should wait until after the election.

"Nominating a replacement and confirming that replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg is not a done deal", he said.

Grassley is not up for reelection until 2022.

In the hypothetical scenario Nadler suggested, Joe Biden could potentially be elected to the presidency, along with an incoming Democratic-controlled Senate set to take over in January; a lame duck Republican-controlled Senate could push through a conservative nominee in November or December anyway.

Trump immediately panned Collins' remarks, telling reporters: "I totally disagree with her".

Sara Gideon, the Democratic party's nominee to take on Collins in the fall, also said Saturday that "the vacancy on the Supreme Court should be filled by the next President and Senate".

"The fate of our rights. and our country depend on what happens over the coming months", Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood, said in a statement. "Her fight for women's equality inspired all women to pursue their dreams without limits, and her grit, character and sharp wit made her an iconic and inspirational jurist beloved by people young and old".

"I do not believe that the Senate should vote on the nominee prior to the election", she said.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, meanwhile, is not mincing words. "It's about whether to give the American people a voice in the selection of the next Supreme Court justice", he said in a statement.

If a woman is appointed, they will be the fifth to serve on the US Supreme Court bench. "McConnell is only doing what the Senate majority has the right to do and what Senate Democrat leaders have said they would do in similar circumstances".
