Responding to Raut in strong words, Kangana compared Mumbai with the militancy-infused Pakistan-occupied Kashmir area, and announced she would return to the city on September 9.

Reacting strongly, Raut had purportedly said, "We kindly request her not to come to Mumbai".

Hindustan Times writes that the row between Raut and Ranaut began after her "Mumbai feeling like Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir" remark.

She would require security from Haryana or Himachal Pradesh police and would not accept protection from the Mumbai police to expose an alleged "drug mafia in Bollywood", the award-winning actor had said.

She had tagged a September 1 news report on Raut asking her not to return to Mumbai if she was afraid of the city police.

On Monday morning, the Centre approved Y-level security for Kangana and deployed state police team outside her residence in Manali. Her comments escalated the fight and provoked controversial statements from Sena leaders who demanded she apologise. "The Maharashtra BJP should clear their stand on Kangana", he said. She will now be getting a Y-plus security cover too.

"Sanjay Raut ji, you called me '[expletive].' It shows your mindset. If I criticise Mumbai Police or if I criticise you, then you can't say I am insulting Maharashtra".

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis distanced his party from Ranaut's remarks, but added that it was the state government's responsibility to protect her. "Because we are not living in a Banana republic". "This only reflects the politics of hatred being played by the Shiv Sena and the disparaging attitude it has towards women", he said.

Previously Sanjay Raut had said that he would "think" about apologising to Kangana Ranaut if she apologizes to the people of Maharashtra first.

He also lashed out at Congress leaders of the state for being silent when a Himachali actor was being ridiculed and demeaned.

The government's decision was attributed to the actor speaking openly about drug use in Bollywood.

She added, "I have all the papers, BMC permissions nothing has been done illegal in my property, BMC should send a structure plan to show the illegal construction with a notice, today they raided my place and without any notice tomorrow they demolishing entire structure".
