Covid toes: Scientists discover red and swollen feet as new symptom

80 percent of COVID-19 patients have vitamin D deficiency: Study

"Investigators at Massachusetts General Hospital, in collaboration with the International League of Dermatological Societies and the American Academy of Dermatology, have found that people with Covid-19 may experience long-term skin problems", the message informs.

According to the publication, in the International COVID-19 dermatological register, patients with coronavirus who have experienced similar cases have also been registered.

Almost 1,000 cases are registered from patients in 39 countries. However, one of these patients showed the symptom for up to 70 days.

And, although they didn't establish an association between vitamin D deficiency and the severity of COVID-19, the study's authors noted that the group of hospitalized patients who had been taking oral supplements prior to admission had slightly more favourable outcomes than those who didn't take supplements before they were admitted to hospital, including lower ferritin levels, a decreased need for the immunosuppressive drug tocilizumab, and lower ICU admissions.

Patients presented with a broad spectrum of dermatologic manifestations lasting for different lengths of time, including hives (urticaria), lasting for median 5 days, and pernio/chilblains ("COVID toes"), lasting 15 days but sometimes as long as 130-150 days, and papulosquamous eruptions, which are scaly papules and plaques, persisting for 20 days.

Pelosi signals Covid deal possible before January
"Hopefully now he will come to the table in a serious way to crush the virus", Pelosi said in an interview with MSNBC. He added that the speaker's "ALL OR NONE approach is hurting hard-working Americans" in need of financial aid.

"They've had toe swelling and toe discoloration and toe pain for many months", Freeman said. And sadly, there is not much doctors can do for these patients. There is now no known treatment to address Covid toes, Freeman explained.

Professor Hague Marcus, who leads the Stroke Research Group in Cambridge, says: "Although the incidence of stroke among (Covid-19) patients is relatively low, the scale of the epidemic means that several thousand people could be affected worldwide". Outside of the registry, there have been a myriad of long-hauler symptoms attributed to COVID-19 including heart damage, lung scarring, kidney abnormalities, hair loss, mental health issues, insomnia and neurological symptoms.

Vitamin D has been getting a lot of attention during COVID-19.

"One approach is to identify and treat vitamin D deficiency, especially in high-risk individuals such as the elderly, patients with comorbidities, and nursing home residents, who are the main target population for the Covid-19", said Hernendez. "The skin is potentially a visible window into inflammation that could be going on in the body", the director of Global Health Dermatology at MGH adds. I think it's important to be reassured that this is generally associated with pretty mild disease.
