Derby lead race for Liverpool's Wilson

Former Cardiff and Wales worldwide defender Gabbidon has given his take on speculation that Wilson - and Woodrow - could move to the Championship club before the summer transfer window closes at 5pm today.

The 23-year-old winger has been the subject of loan interest from a host of clubs in the Championship in the final days of the domestic transfer window.

Wilson looks like he could complete a move away from Anfield on loan before Friday's window shuts and there are a string of sides in England's second-tier desperate for his signature, which would be an incredible one for any of them.

Club officials believe that a short-term move away from Liverpool represents the best option for all parties as regular football in the Welsh capital could see his value heightened ahead of the 2021 summer transfer window.

Liverpool reconsidered their stance and, the PA news agency understands, the Bluebirds were the only ones to meet the financial package which includes a £1.2million loan fee and covering his full wages, with Swansea, Norwich, Derby - where Wilson spent a previous loan spell - and Nottingham Forest also in the running.

Wilson has made just two first-team appearances for Liverpool, a third-round FA Cup replay at Plymouth in January 2017 and in the Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal earlier this month.

Wilson was going to struggle for playing time at Liverpool this season, as the Reds have a very strong attacking unit and world-class players in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
