Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep and Timothee Chalamet Join Star-Studded Cast of Adam McKay’s ‘Don’t Look Up’

The Oscar-winner, who only appears on screen every few years, is set to star alongside (takes deep breath) Jennifer Lawrence, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Rob Morgan and Matthew Perry for Netflix's Don't Look Up. McKay is writing and directing as his follow-up to "Vice".

The official description reads, "A pair of astronomers try to warn everyone on Earth that a giant a meteorite will destroy the planet in six months". The scientists embark on a tour around the country warning the population about its inevitable death, but people aren't so quick to believe them or care. It's a safe bet that this movie's asteroid is a very on-the-nose metaphor for climate change, but McKay has worked wonders with broad themes in the early part of his career.

And the director is assembling quite a star-studded support cast for the Netflix film. He is also starring in Martin Scorcese's Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Robert De Niro which is being funded by Apple and will hit theaters as well as premiere on Apple TV+ sometime in 2021.

McKay, whose last film Vice told the story of former United States vice president Dick Cheney, says he wanted to work on something a bit lighter as a palette cleanser.

Don't Look Up is expected to begin filming before the end of the year.

"I don't think it's a "Step Brothers"-type of comedy", McKay said". I would compare it more to somewhere between the Mike Judge stuff and Wag the Dog.
