St John Ambulance confirmed that one person was dead and two men in their 20s had sustained "multiple injuries" and had been taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

The building was under construction when a large glass panelled ceiling gave way, crushing construction equipment and personnel beneath, with emergency services notified at roughly 12:30 p.m. local time.

The 23-year-old man and another worker fell more than 20 metres when a metal structure supporting the glass roof collapsed yesterday.

A vehicle being used by the construction team is also understood to have been destroyed by the collapse.

"Police and emergency crews are working.to make the site safe, at which point we can remove the body of the deceased and we can commence our investigation proper", Commander Bell said.

The families of the injured men are yet to be notified.

A reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corp at the site said that the collapse had happened during the installation of the glass roof at the front of the building.

Police said the construction had been going on for months and they were unaware of any issues with the worksite.

One person has been killed and two more injured in a building collapse at Perth's Curtin University.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident, and our immediate priority is to support the workers' families, friends and colleagues", he said in a statement.

The university has asked staff and students to avoid the area.

"It's 2020. These events shouldn't be happening in the construction industry", he said.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, but CFMEU state secretary Mick Buchan claimed safety concerns had been raised recently regarding the deflection in the structural steel.

WorkSafe were called in to investigate, but there is no suggestion of suspicious circumstances.

Premier Mark McGowan also acknowledged the "terrible tragedy" in parliament and passed on his thoughts to those involved.
