The 87-year-old California senator and Judiciary Committee Ranking member offered fulsome praise of Graham, calling the Barrett proceedings "the best set of hearing that I've participated in", even as Congressional Democrats have decried Republicans for filling the seat with the 2020 election already underway.

"The bottom line is my opponent raised $57 million".

The remark, which drew quick condemnation from Graham's Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison, came during discussion of Supreme Court super precedent - rulings that the court no longer hears cases on, unlike Roe v. Wade, which guaranteed abortion rights.

"If Republicans hold the Senate, guys, I'll be the budget chairman. Is that correct?" Graham asked, positing that "there's a very rigorous process in place to overturn the precedent?" "Help me. Help yourself by helping me", the GOP senator said.

"Somebody might have made the argument is possible the three people love each other, generally, and that would work this way with court if somebody wanted to make that argument", Graham claimed. I represent a state with 31% of an African American population.

Graham said Harrison's attack was "not worthy of the times in which we live" and "not worthy of an assault on me", Politico reported.

"If you're a young African American or an immigrant, you can go anywhere in this state, you just need to be conservative, not liberal", Graham said.
