So today, let's look at ten ways the Joe Thornton signing could play out, with help from other moves from Leafs history.

TSN NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun joined Toronto's OverDrive 1050, and spoke about how Thornton is handling his departure from San Jose after a decade and a half in the Bay Area.

"That's just who Joe is".

Free-agent center Joe Thornton signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday for his 23rd season in the National Hockey League, ending a 15-year run with the San Jose Sharks.

"I guess it's fair to say that I'm still kind of numb about it", Couture told Kurz. Thornton is now in Switzerland playing for HC Davos, but is expected to return in time for the NHL's training camp. Of course, it was just three years ago that Marleau left San Jose for Toronto, while Thornton chose to stay with the Sharks, when both players were unrestricted free agents.

Internationally, Thornton has represented Canada several times, capturing an Olympic gold medal (2010), two World Cup gold medals (2004, 2016), one gold medal at the 1997 junior championship as well as a Spengler Cup with Davos in 2005.
