S&P 500 opens deep in red for third straight day

The S&P 500 opened higher by 10.16 points or 0.29 per cent at 3,493.50, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 47.96 points or 0.41 per cent to 11,761.83 at the opening bell.

USA stocks were mixed on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Dow finishing the week in the black just shy of the all-time weekly closing highs.

The Dow gained 19.41 points, or 0.1%. In fact, the November VIX Futures contract closed at the 33.18-level on 02 October, but it now trades almost 5-points lower at the 28.47-mark.

Pfizer stock was up 2.2% to $37.33.

Stocks took a late stumble on Wall Street, erasing an early gain and leaving major indexes mixed on Friday.

The Nasdaq fell 42.32 points, or 0.4%, to 11,671.56. S&P 500 price action fell by more than 1% following the NY opening bell, but equities clawed back downside as trading progressed. Expectations had been for retail sales to increase by 0.7%, up from a 0.6% rise in August.

USA indices are expected to open modestly higher, continuing the momentum seen in yesterday afternoon's trading session. The broader-based S&P 500 is tipped to open 4 points firmer at 3,487.

The Nasdaq added 91.61 points, or 0.8%.

US stocks closed mixed on Friday as investors pored through the nation's monthly retail sales data. U.S. retail sales increased by 1.9% month over month. "The test positivity rate has increased over the past month, but not by much, and the recent trend is steady", Shepherdson noted.
