As new daily COVID-19 cases across Ontario were recorded at 783 Friday, the province stepped up efforts to encourage residents amid a second wave of the pandemic to use the COVID-Alert app to help arm the province and users with better tracking measures.

There were 98 more COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario schools, with 485 or 10 per cent of them now having students and staff infected.

In consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Public Health Measures Table, local medical officers of health and other health experts, the Ontario government is introducing additional health measures for York Region.

According to Toronto Public Health, there are 107 people in hospital, an increase of 18 new, with one more death and 299 more recovered from yesterday's report.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says 239 of the new cases are in Toronto, 136 are in Peel Region, 127 are in York Region and 89 are in Ottawa.
