End-to-end encryption coming to Android phones, along with RCS messaging update

Google plans to test end-to-end encryption in Android messages

Google plans to test end-to-end encryption in Android messages

"We recognize that your conversations are private and it's our responsibility to keep your personal information safe", Drew Rowny, Google's Product Lead for Messages said in a blog.

Essentially, RCS seeks to integrate features that have become standard in popular messaging apps like WhatsApp and Telegram.

They're also beginning beta tests for end-to-end encryption between one-on-one RCS conversations in the app.

If you want to start messing around with RCS, just update the Google Messages app in the Google Play Store and enable chat features via the app settings.

Aussies had RCS Chat arrive here not long ago but today Google has announced that have finished their global rollout making the "modern messaging experience universal" for everyone on Android. The feature will be available to beta testers, who can sign up later this month. With encryption, this "ensures that no one, including Google and third parties, can read the content of your messages as they travel between your phone and the phone of the person you're messaging".

Treasury, Fed clash over unused funds
The facilities could be reactivated, if needed, with congressional support or with other funds available to the Treasury, he said. Credit markets for corporations and municipalities froze up earlier this year because of the crisis.

The move could bring trustworthy encryption to billions of Android phone users, safeguarding their data in a way that makes it inaccessible to Google, phone carriers and most snoops trying to intercept their communication with traditional forms of surveillance.

RCS in Google Messages is now available globally after a somewhat slow rollout.

But as I mentioned above, the bigger news for privacy fans is in news that RCS in Messages will soon see end-to-end encryption. RCS features include improved video and photo quality, seeing when chats are read, sending and receiving messages over WiFI, improved group chat capabilities and sending reactions to messages.

Previously, it was only available in a few countries, including France, Mexico, and the US.
