Westbrook, 31, famously joined the Rockets previous year after his former team, Oklahoma City Thunder, agreed to trade the -time NBA All-Star to Houston in exchange for fellow point guard Chris Paul, two protected first-round picks and other draft considerations.

During a series in which they never really looked competitive, the Lakers sprung them out of the second round in Orlando in five games.

Almost two months after the bumpy departure of former coach Mike D'Antoni and a month after former general manager Daryl Morey's unexpected exit, sources tell The Athletic's Shams Charania that one-time MVP and nine-time All-Star Russell Westbrook wants out of Houston. Daryl Morey left for a new challenge in Philly, not long after Mike D'Antoni parted ways with the organization too. Prior to The Athletic's Shams Charania reporting on Westbrook's discontent, there wasn't much chatter about whether he wanted to stay in Houston or not.

Harden has been with the Rockets for eight seasons and is the face of the franchise. Just a year after trading Chris Paul for Westbrook, Harden remains "locked in" on Houston, per Charania, but will be looking for another guard to play alongside for 2020-21 - and Harden still has say in personnel and roster decisions.

There's no doubt the team underachieved this past season. Depending on what the Rockets can get back in a potential Westbrook trade, they'll face some hard decisions about how to move forward. He now has three years and more than $132 (AUD$179M) million left on his contract to run. As Perkins asserts, he is hearing rumors that Harden could be sent to Brooklyn Nets or the Philadelphia 76ers, which ultimately made Westbrook request a trade.
