Wipeout Gameshow Contestant Dies After Completing Obstacle Course

A male contestant on the rebooted US game show Wipeout has died after tackling the TV obstacle course. The male contestant was later taken to the hospital where he died, according to TMZ. At the time of writing, Wipeout has not announced a premiere date, and no announcement has been made about changes that will or will not happen in the wake of a man's death following completion of the obstacle course.

Production sources told Fox News the contestant required medical attention after he completed the course on Wednesday and medical personnel tended to him on-site.

Law enforcement say they received a cardiac arrest call before noon on Wednesday.

A man has passed away after completing the obstacle course on the "Wipeout" reboot, which is hosted by veteran WWE Superstar John Cena.

Wipeout has safeguards and precautions in place on their set. The show also had two paramedics on-site, a paramedic coordinator, and a safety producer. The original announcement on the show from earlier this year noted that the former WWE Champion and Byer would "offer comedic commentary" for each episode.

The reboot, which follows the three rounds and a three-stage, obstacle course "consisting of multiple strategy and decision points created to further challenge and wear out the stamina" of participants, was picked up by TBS earlier this year, and is scheduled to air sometime in 2021. The TBS spokesperson said that they are "devastated to have learned of his passing", and their "deepest sympathy goes out to the family".
