The Oscar board has guaranteed that there will be 10 Best Picture nominated in 2021 and this will be continued further to allow cultural diversity.

Speaking to Variety, a rep for the Academy and ABC said "The Oscars in-person telecast will happen".

Quashing all the speculations about the Oscars 2021 going virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a representative from the Academy Awards has confirmed that the gala will happen live like always. They also changed their rules allowing movies that skipped the big screen this year to contend for Oscars.

"The Academy has done a walkthrough of the Dolby recently to see all the multiple options", the report added, citing an awards publicist familiar with the situation. Given how badly impacted both the movie industry and the United States generally has been by the pandemic, this might feel a little premature.

The Academy Awards ceremony is usually held at the 3,400-seat Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The shortlist for next year's Academy Awards will be unveiled on February 9, and nominations will be announced on March 15. According to sources, the hope was that theaters would open in spring, and more films would be released and submitted for consideration. Oscars 2021 are likely to have a different feel than the traditional ceremony.

In the past year, a number of high-profile events have been forced to make dramatic changes as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The Globes, which are hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said in a July 27 press release that their show would air live from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
