Jaguars to meet with Urban Meyer to discuss head coaching job

ESPN's Adam Schefter on Saturday reported that Meyer is assembling a coaching staff - including former college assistants - if he decides to take over as Jacksonville's head coach. Former head coach Doug Marrone was sacked last week after the team went 1-15.

A deal isn't imminent, report Pelissero and Rapoport, but Meyer has been heavily rumored as a candidate to replace the recently fired Doug Marrone on the Jaguars' sideline. The franchise already interviewed Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Atlanta Falcons interim head coach Raheem Morris.

As Rapoport notes, an in-person meeting can "accelerate" the hiring process. The Jaguars have the first overall pick in the 2021 draft and are expected to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The 56-year old has been a college football analyst for FOX Sports for the past two years since stepping down at Ohio State, citing health reasons. He won a combined three national championships between those schools (two at Florida, one at Ohio State) and enjoyed an undefeated season at Utah in 2004.
