Dustin's diagnosis was confirmed on his Facebook page on January 14 to update fans about the 44-year-old performer who is best known for playing gawky-but-lovable Samuel "Screech" Powers on Saved by the Bell and several spinoffs. He had sought medical attention earlier in the week after experiencing pain all over his body.

Dustin Diamond's former Bayside High classmates are sending well-wishes after their "Saved by the Bell" costar was diagnosed with cancer. The celebrity news website claimed a source close to the matter had revealed Diamond's cancer diagnosis, and that he had gone to the hospital to receive a biopsy. According to the rep, Diamond has cancer throughout his body, with doctor's first discovering the disease after finding a lump in his throat. The actor's rep noted Dustin is also feeling pain from having shingles.
