Jim Harbaugh isn't leaving MI.

MI reached a new five-year deal on Friday with football coach Jim Harbaugh.

According to Scott Roussel of FootballScoop, Harbaugh will be guaranteed $4 million annually. Jim is a tireless worker and competitor. The new deal is laced with lucrative performance incentives, including $1 million each for winning the Big Ten championship game and College Football Playoff. We have a plan.

Now that Harbaugh and MI have agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension, it's only fair to honor his request. "These challenges are being addressed as we continue to strive for excellence in the classroom and championships on the field, a message that I hope is noted in the language of our agreed-upon contract".

Over the course of six years, Jim Harbaugh has compiled a 49-22 record as Michigan's head coach, ranking the Wolverines among the top 15 nationally over that stretch. Harbaugh spent much of the past few weeks vacationing in California but returned to Ann Arbor this week, a source said.

MI finished 2-4 in 2020 and failed to win a home game for the first time in program history.

Harbaugh can also collect a $200,000 bonus if MI reaches a New Year's Six bowl game, $150,000 if MI continues to meet an undisclosed April score, $75,000 if he's named a national coach of the year and $50,000 if he's named Big Ten coach of the year. The Wolverines won 10 games in three of his first four seasons, but rumblings have begun recently that he could either be fired or might seek to go back to the National Football League once his contract expired after the 2021 season, if not before. Due to the lack of success he's had-especially in the Big Ten-there were reports in December that Harbaugh was likely on his way out of MI and was itching to return to the NFL.

MI fired defensive coordinator Don Brown last month, and six other assistants have contracts that expire Sunday.
