Health officials have said that when more than 300 COVID-19 patients are in intensive care, medical care in hospitals not related to the disease becomes almost impossible to handle. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 162.7 cases per 100,000 people from January 2 to January 8, which is an increase of 18.2 per cent compared to December 27 to January 2 when the average weekly incidence rate was 137.7 cases per 100,000 people.

In a more "severe but realistic" scenario of three per cent, ICU occupancy could hit 1,000.

Dr. Adalsteinn Brown, Co-Chair of the Ontario COVID-19 Science Advisory Table says the province is in a risky situation right now.

As for children who aren't of school age, daycares and child care centres will remain open. "There will be choices about who will receive oxygen or be transported to hospital".

The latest update from the province shows 68 new cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa after several days of triple-digit increases. This would far surpass the deaths seen in the first wave of the pandemic.

This means the province has declared a second provincial emergency as defined in the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMPCA).

Despite alarming modelling data, the Ford government continues to refuse advice from public health experts to implement paid sick days to curb the spread of the virus by ensuring that workers can stay home if they are sick.

The investigation is continuing, and Jaffe encouraged people to come clean about recent travel, "even though they think maybe that might get them into trouble; of course it would not", she said, unless, of course, they lied.

There could be as many as 6,000 cases a day in Ontario in the coming weeks. The doubling time for cases could drop by more than 2/3.

Public health officials said the previously known six cases of the United Kingdom variant were all related to travel or close contact with someone who had travelled.

Premier Doug Ford said while making the announcement, "The system is on the brink of collapse". The number of cases in Ontario is growing between three per cent and five per cent nearly every day.

The 4TB version is rated for 2000MB/s read and writes, and will cost £857.99, with availability slated for later this quarter. This model also boasts "two-meter drop protection" as well as IP55 certification for water and dust resistance.

S. land border will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least February 21 - another 30-day extension to the restrictions in place since mid-March.

"At the heart of our continued efforts to protect against the spread of COVID-19 in our communities is a firm commitment to return kids to school safely", said Education Minister Stephen Lecce, in a press release.

1,701 people are now hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,563 reported yesterday.

"Locally, there are 837 new cases in Toronto, 545 in Peel, 249 in York Region and 246 in Niagara".

There were 44,802 COVID-19 tests completed in the province in the last-recorded 24-hour period.

Overall, total cases in Ontario grew to 222,203 cases with a further 186,829 cases reported as resolved.

Though the number of new cases dipped below 3,000, the testing positivity rate remains high at 7.8 per cent. Of those ICU patients, 262 are breathing with the help of a ventilator.

The province has reported 41 deaths today. He said when care is delayed, patients get sicker, their prognosis gets worse and more patients will die.

The projections also said 40 per cent of the province's nursing homes are experiencing outbreaks of the virus.

As of Monday evening at 8 pm, the province has administered 133,553 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
