The Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday announced Test squad for the series against South Africa.

More consideration was given to performers of the just concluded domestic First-Class matches from where six uncapped players - Kamran Ghulam (batsman), Saud Shakil (batsman), Nauman Ali (left-arm spinner), Sajid Khan (off-spinner) Tabish Khan (fast bowler) and Salman Ali Agha (batsman) - are selected.

Ghulam topped the scoring chart in this season's premier first class tournament by scoring 1,249 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. "Tabish is a workhorse who can bowl long spells with controlled line and length".

We have held steadfastly to the principle that no country should be left behind. Africa has scrambled on multiple fronts to obtain vaccine supplies.

The selectors have also dropped opening batsman Shan Masood and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail after Pakistan was routed 2-0 by New Zealand in the test series with regular skipper Babar Azam missing the entire series due to a fractured thumb. At present, South Africa is placed in fifth place behind Australia, India, New Zealand, and England with 144 points and 40%.

Shan Masood, Imam Ul Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Zafar Gohar, Sohail Khan, and Naseem Shah have been dropped from the team owing to their poor performance in the two-Test matches against New Zealand. "Shan's bad form has opened doors for Abid Ali's new partner, be it either Abdullah Shafique or Imran Butt, who was last (domestic) season's top scorer".

The South African squad, along with Pakistani cricketers, will undergo another round of COVID-19 testing before the first Test - scheduled to start from January 26 at the National Stadium. "However, the PCB will not let its investment on these talented players go to waste and will invite them to the High Performance Centre so that they can work out their technical flaws and get back into contention", said chief selector Mohammad Wasim. Later, the two teams will play three T20I matches series from February 11-14 in Lahore. "Pakistan initial Test squad for the series against South Africa", the journalist tweeted.

"Both Naseem and Abbas were lacking that bite so we have not included them in the squad which will be trimmed to 16 before the Test", said Wasim.
