Prince Charles to unveil Earth Charter to boost green business

Britain's Prince Charles will tell businesses on Monday that they must put the planet and its people first by launching a new sustainability charter backed by some of the world's leading companies.

Evoking the Magna Carta, seen as the establishment of modern civil rights in the United Kingdom, the new environmental charter sets out 10 Articles for signatories to commit to.

The charter "offers the basis of a recovery plan", according to the Prince, and commits backers to acknowledging the need for net zero emissions targets to be met by 2050 or sooner, alongside ambitious interim goals.

The heir to Queen Elizabeth II's throne is urging private industry to sign up to the plan that he hopes will "reunite people and planet" with almost 100 actions to become sustainable by 2030.

Other supporters of Terra Carta so far include investment manager Fidelity International, Bank of America, financial market data provider Refinitiv and private banking company Coutts.

Charles will launch his project at the One Planet Summit in Paris.

Western Digital Brings 4TB Capacity To Its Entire SSD Lineup
The 4TB version is rated for 2000MB/s read and writes, and will cost £857.99, with availability slated for later this quarter. This model also boasts "two-meter drop protection" as well as IP55 certification for water and dust resistance.

"Today, I am making an urgent appeal to leaders, from all sectors and from around the world, to join us in this endeavour, and to give their support to this "Terra Carta" - to bring prosperity into harmony with nature, people, and planet over the coming decade", Charles said.

Indian solar energy firm ReNew Power is among an initial list of over two dozen worldwide companies already signed up to the charter, including AstraZeneca, Unilever, Bank of America, EY and BP.

It aims to raise £7.3bn to invest in the natural world.

Over the next 10 years, the SMI plans to update and report annually on progress against the Terra Carta in order to "reflect the rapid pace of change and continuous progress being achieved around the world". It comes from the Royals' The Sustainable Markets Initiative, launched by Charles in January 2020; the initiative aims to support communities, businesses, investors and consumers to take the urgent and necessary steps required to transition to more sustainable practices.

Swiss bank Lombard Odier, asset manager Mirova andfunds jointly managed by HSBC and climate advisory firm Pollination Group are founding partners of the initiative, dubbed the Natural Capital Investment Alliance.
