A Canadian woman was caught walking her husband on a leash to get around curfew rules

The government of Quebec, Canada, has been keeping its residents on a metaphorical short leash when it comes to COVID restrictions, which has prompted a local woman to put her husband on a literal leash so that the pair could go outside during curfew.

But that leash was not attached to a dog, per CTV News.

Quebec's curfew protocols allow pet owners to walk their animals within a one-kilometre radius from their home after 8 pm.

The husband and wife were reportedly not cooperating with police, when they were stopped on the streets of Quebec, after the curfew.

When they were stopped by the police, the woman argued people are allowed to walk dogs on a leash within a kilometer of their homes after 20:00, per the rules.

The couple was fined $A1565 each for not abiding by the curfew, the BBC reported.

When the police protested, the woman in question firmly said she would not pay the fine, according to a report by La Tribune.

The couple reportedly tried to claim they were following the rules.

Quebec is wrestling with more than 2,500 COVID-19 cases a day, a surge that threatens to increase hospitalizations beyond their spring peak in the next few weeks.

This weekend, Quebec became the first province to enforce a curfew to help curb the spread of COVID-19, which led to over 200 tickets issued by police handed to people found not complying with the health and safety measures.

"The situation is critical and a shock treatment is needed", Legault said in a Facebook post earlier Saturday. Hundreds of people are in intensive care, fighting for their lives.

Quebec and the rest of Canada have seen a sharp uptick in COVID cases in recent months.
