Secret Service detail initially resorted to a porta-potty outside the couple's home, but it was removed after an outcry of neighbors over the unsightly scene.

The family could count high-profile officials and even one former president among their neighbors - as well as their own Secret Service detail, who had to rent a nearby apartment to use the bathroom because they weren't allowed inside the Kushner-Trump home, neighbors and law enforcement sources tell The Washington Post.

White House spokesperson Judd Deere has been mentioned to have denied that Secret Service was refused permission to use facilities at Ivanka's house.

Law-enforcement officials told The Post that the president's daughter and his son-in-law barred the Secret Service agents from using their 6.5 bathrooms when they first moved into their home in the wealthy Kalorama neighborhood of Washington, DC, in 2017.

But securing an appropriate bathroom has come at a cost to USA taxpayers, with the paper claiming the government has been spending $3000 ($A3800) a month since September 2017 to rent a basement studio, with a bathroom, from a neighbour of the Kushner family.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said Tokyo is monitoring North Korean missile developments with "great concern". The state-run Korean Central Television announced that recorded footage of the military parade will be broadcast at 3 p.m.

"The Kushners have a tremendous amount of respect for the servicemen and women on their detail and for the Secret Service as a whole".

He claimed that their house was always open to them.

According to an earlier report by the Washington Post, several of Mr Trump's neighbours delivered a demand letter to the town authorities of Palm Beach, addressed to the US Secret Service, which said that the president lost his legal right to permanently live at Mar-a-Lago due to an agreement he signed in 1993 when he turned his private residence to a private club. According to the Post, the federal government has been spending $3,000 a month since September 2017 for Secret Service detail to rent out the studio. The Post says that account is disputed by a law enforcement official, who insisted the agents were kept out "at the family's request".

A spokeswoman for the Secret Service would not comment.

That's when the Kushner-Trump detail started using a bathroom in the Obama family's nearby garage.
