Total COVID-19 Deaths Pass 2 Million Worldwide

According to JHU data, 4,327 coronavirus-related deaths were reported in the United States on Tuesday, marking the second time since the start of the pandemic that the USA had more than 4,000 coronavirus deaths reported in a single day.

As the world scrambles to roll out vaccination programs to stop Covid-19, the global death toll from the fatal respiratory disease has crossed the grim two-million mark.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 23,067,796 and 384,604, respectively, according to the CSSE.

The US recorded more than 235,000 new cases of coronavirus infection and 4,470 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins tally as of 8:30 pm (0130 GMT).

As of Friday morning, 4,848 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, another downward trend and well below the December peak when more than 6,300 were hospitalized.

The outbreak in the USA continues to worsen. Many experts are predicting another year of loss and hardship in places like Iran, India, Mexico and Brazil, which together account for about a quarter of the world's deaths.

The nation's confirmed cases of infections are now more than 22.8 million, as the country now faces a huge political crisis, and citizens are on edge over threats of more violence from far-right and pro-Trump extremists.

In wealthy countries including the United States, Britain, Israel, Canada and Germany, millions of citizens have already been given some measure of protection with at least one dose of vaccine developed with revolutionary speed and quickly authorized for use. With more vaccines up for approval in the weeks and months ahead, officials hope life will return to some sense of normalcy within the year.
