The video of Newman planting the flag came after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took aim at an LGBT rights bill known as the Equality Act during a floor speech on Tuesday.

So Newman, whose office neighbours Greene's, hung a trans pride flag "so she can look at it every time she opens her door".

"I think it's awful what we're doing to this generation of children with these mask mandates and these shutdowns", Greene told Fox News in November a year ago. President Biden supports the legislation.

The Chicago Tribune, meanwhile, reported that Rep. Cori Bush, a Democrat from Missouri, said she switched offices because Greene and her staff harassed her by not wearing face masks.

Greene responded on Twitter: "As mothers, we all love and support our children".

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi speaks during a 2019 news conference where House and Senate Democrats introduced the Equality Act. But many Republicans - from moderates like Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) to hard-liners like Greene - oppose the bill and argue it would threaten religious liberties.

Greene also tweeted that the Equality Act puts "sexual and gender identity above all rights, and anyone who goes against it is considered discrimination" and falsely claimed the act would protect paedophiles. Critics have panned those arguments as transphobic, with roots in a fringe political movement that has made some radical feminists and conservatives unlikely allies on the issue. 'Have Democrats actually read the bill?

"Our transgender flag not only represents her but the millions of Americans that deserve not to be bullied or discriminated against by anyone - let alone a sitting member of Congress". "You are not a good person", wrote LGBTQ+ ally Patricia Arquette, who lost her transgender sibling Alexis in 2016.

In addition to hanging an anti-trans sign outside of Newman's office on Wednesday, Greene also tweeted a personal attack that refused to refer to the IL congresswoman's daughter as a woman.

B.C. records more than 500 cases of COVID-19, six deaths
While delays in shipments of the vaccines have meant pushing back the second dose for some, preliminary data from the B.C. Another 20 cases are B.1.351, a variant first noted in South Africa, and so far just one case is known to be B.1.525.

"This is sad and I'm sorry this happened", Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., tweeted Wednesday night.

Newman's office is directly across from Greene's, who responded to her congressional colleague by referring to Newman's daughter as her "biological son". "This garbage must end, in order to #RestoreOurGOP".

In a tweet posted to her personal Twitter she wrote: 'God created ONLY TWO genders'.

Representative Ted Lieu of California posted: 'Dear [Marjorie Taylor Greene]: Your sign is incorrect because it's not what the science says'.

The criticism of Greene also came from beyond the confines of the Capitol building.

Taylor Greene has drawn the ire of Democrats and some Republicans for spreading baseless QAnon conspiracy theories and bigoted misinformation, supporting the killing of Democrats and posting a video in which she suggested 9/11 was a hoax.

Newman did so after Greene attempted to derail the Equality Act, which is expected to pass Thursday in the House of Representatives. Newman will certainly be among the lawmakers voting in favor of the bill.

"Without the Equality Act, this nation will never live up to its principals of freedom and equality", Newman said on the House floor Wednesday afternoon. "The best time to pass this act was decades ago". I was thinking about my family when I spoke on the floor today, when I presided for the second time over the passage of the Equality Act.

House members from the newly-elected 117th Congress are set to vote this week on the anti-discrimination bill, which Newman said she would vote to pass in honor of her own daughter who is transgender. "Biological little girls can not compete against biological little boys, and they shouldn't have to".
