Tiger Woods is undergoing surgery on leg injuries after being cut from his auto following an accident in Los Angeles, officials have confirmed.

After being removed from the vehicle, Woods was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Woods, who recently underwent his fifth back surgery, was suffered "multiple leg injuries".

Steinberg confirmed the detail about the American having sustained "multiple leg injuries".

Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend as the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where he presented the trophy.

A statement from the LA County Sheriff's Department said it responded to the crash "on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes" on Tuesday morning local time. They say Tiger was extricated from the vehicle with the "jaws of life" and transported to a local hospital. The vehicle sustained major damage, police said, and no one else was involved in the crash. He was freed from his vehicle and taken to a local hospital, where he's now undergoing surgery.

Biden addresses G7, Munich Security Conference
Mr Biden said the United States stands ready to rejoin talks about re-entering the 2015 Iran nuclear deal that was abandoned by Mr Trump.

World number three Justin Thomas is one of Woods' best friends on the tour and expressed concern for his compatriot. "I know you're good because your Tiger within is a beast!" It traces Tiger's remarkable rise from cute toddler impressing Bob Hope and James Stewart on The Mike Douglas Show to the sport's most dominant golfer, with the attendant expectations not just of weekly victory, but of being a "bridge between all the different tribes races in humanity".

The PGA Tour said in a statement: "On behalf of the PGA Tour and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers".

The PGA Tour issued a statement this afternoon: "We have been made aware of Tiger Woods' vehicle accident today". He then took a break from golf but returned shortly afterwards. The auto Woods was driving appeared to have Genesis logo and moniker on its doors, meaning it could be a tournament courtesy vehicle. He later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

Woods ended an 11-year wait for a major title when he won the Masters at Augusta in 2019. He won 14 majors in just 11 years and, after winning the US Open in 2008, looked set to stroll past the all-time record of 18 set by Jack Nicklaus. He had a fifth surgery on his back, a microdiscectomy, two days before Christmas and gave no indication when he would return.

Woods also served as a major influence on the modern generation of golfers such as Australian world No. 1 Jason Day, who has said he read a book about Woods and made a decision to copy the American's high work ethic, spending hours and hours on the practice range.
