Alberta announced Monday that it is opening up libraries and allowing low-intensity indoor group fitness workouts, like Pilates and tai chi.

Health officials and politicians have repeatedly said skyrocketing ICU admissions have threatened to overwhelm the provincial health care system, a key argument used to justify harsh COVID-19 lockdowns since the pandemic first hit in March 2020. "Still, over the past few months, Alberta has made tremendous progress".

"Our long-term care and designated-supportive living facilities, typically called nursing homes, have seen cases plummet", Kenney said.

Alberta cracked open the doors of libraries and gyms Monday in a careful lifting of restrictions aimed at keeping COVID-19 in check, says Premier Jason Kenney.

The easing of regulations comes days after the Western Standard revealed admissions into Alberta's intensive care units (ICUs) actually dropped previous year.

He pointed to a "sharp reduction" in hospitalization from 950 at the height of the pandemic to 257 as of Monday.

At Least 18 Killed in Myanmar on Bloodiest Day of Protests
The violence started early in the morning as medical students marched in Yangon's streets near the Hledan Center intersection. Junta leader General Min Aung Hlaing said last week authorities were using minimal force to deal with the protests.

"I think in part through super aggressive contact tracing, we've been able to pretty successfully contain those more contagious variants", he said.

High-intensity activities, including running, spin and high-intensity interval training, continue to be allowed only on a one-on-one with a trainer basis, or training with a household and one trainer.

Other sectors that were hoping to get a green light like retail, hotels, community halls, and children's sports will continue in a holding pattern. "That's an important thing for us to remember". We all want to get back to that place as soon as possible.

"He called the inoculations a" game-changer" and against lambasted Justin Trudeau for his government's vaccine rollout fiasco, noting Canada now rank 40th in the world. The variants are estimated to be 30 to 50 per cent more infectious than the common strain of the virus, the health minister said.

"Low-intensity fitness is stuff that doesn't make you breathe significantly harder than you usually do", is how Health Minister Tyler Shandro explained it on Tuesday afternoon.

"Now that the variants are in Alberta, we have to be even more vigilant, even as we ease measures".
