'Don't make plans for Easter': Ford

"For now, every region in the province should go back one stage".

"We're putting these mass vaccination centers up, a ton of effort, a ton of resources, a ton of people going there, and all of a sudden, bang, now we have to close it down again, up at Wonderland", he said in the legislature on Tuesday. Vaccines are here. Summer is coming.

The OMA says that doctors remain troubled by the exponential growth of COVID variants across the province. "And if we need to take action, and put on the emergency brake we won't hesitate to do that". "We are asking all Ontarians to exercise an abundance of care and caution to stop the spread".

Premier Ford blamed the shortage issue on the federal government.

"I'd be shocked if we were not in lockdown shortly before or after this weekend", said Stall to the Star.

Doug Ford says that talks are ongoing when it comes to potential modifications to the provincial framework, urging people to not make plans for Easter. "To be very frank, I don't want to predict two weeks out, but we'll be out here every single day, communicating with the people".

"Fifty per cent of the cases are in younger people now".

Public health officials say variants of concern (VOC, ) mutations that are more contagious than the original strains of COVID-19, are fuelling a third wave of the pandemic.

United Kingdom records another 4,040 coronavirus cases, 56 deaths
Overall, 10,311 deaths were registered in the week to March 12, 8.0% below the average for the corresponding period in 2015-19. A total of 150,116 deaths have now occurred in the United Kingdom where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

There were close to 1,100 people in Ontario hospitals as of Monday night which is the highest number since early February.

With case numbers in general, and as far as variants are concerned "going up at a rapid speed", residents have to stay extra vigilant and cautious as things open up again, and not take the easing of restrictions as a sign that we are out of the woods.

It also showed that people infected with COVID-19 variants are more likely to be hospitalized and die, placing a "considerably higher burden" on the health-care system than during the second wave of infections.

"I am very concerned about the breakdown in social cohesion and the understanding of the risk and the sacrifice that is still needed to get us all through this safely together and without unnecessary death and harm and further massive disruption to hospital care", said Dale.

"We can not get this under control with just the vaccine right now because we don't have enough ready", he said.

The Toronto District School Board sent a memo to principals on Monday advising them to be prepared for the possibility that Canada's largest school board would not return to in-person learning after the break.

The Progressive Conservatives have been late to make decisions about schools previously in the pandemic, including extending the winter break after it had already started, a month after hinting they would and then saying they wouldn't.
