For now, students in Ontario can look forward to spring break in April.

"The minister will be keeping a sharp eye on it, as well as myself and the chief medical officer", he said.

Ford said parents can expect clarity on the April break by the end of the week or within 10 days.

But Education Minister Stephen Lecce said the province's Chief Medical Officer of Health is working on new guidance so families can have a safe break.

When Premier Doug Ford was asked the same question less than two hours later, his answer was less definitive.

The Progressive Conservatives have been late to make decisions about schools previously in the pandemic, including extending the winter break after it had already started, a month after hinting they would and then saying they wouldn't.

Jury in George Floyd murder trial shown harrowing video of his death
A jury of 14 people will hear the case, eight who are white and six who are black or multiracial, according to the court. The seat for a Chauvin family member was empty, as it was all through more than two weeks of jury selection.

At a news conference in Niagara Falls Monday, Ford said he couldn't give a solid answer one way or the other two weeks out.

"I agree 100 percent with you, parents need the 2 weeks to plan but god forbid, we say were going to close, or we are going to open it and things change drastically, we see the numbers going up at a rapid speed right now".

At the same time, the government is prepared to halt in-class learning if cases jump within a school.

When pressed further, he said the government would decide by the end of the week.

There are now 3,732 active cases among children and teens.
