Woman kidnapped after incident with officers, Peel regional police say

Peel police were called to a basketball court in the Queen Street East and Dixie Road area at around 6 p.m.

Peel Regional Police say they are investigating the abduction of a woman from a Brampton residence early Sunday morning.

Officers attended the residence and reportedly heard a female screaming from somewhere inside before entering the house.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, police entered the home and made their way to the garage area where they discovered a man in the driver's seat of a auto with a woman in the back seat.

"There was an interaction, and two officers discharged their firearms in the direction of the vehicle", the statement read. They were both last seen in a black Honda Civic bearing the license plate BZHE247.

"We believe this is a kidnapping incident and we are now concerned for [Ouk's] safety and well being", Cannon said. The two are believed to be in a relationship and investigators say Garwood is considered armed and unsafe.

The suspect and victim are known to each other, but police wouldn't elaborate.

Const. Heather Cannon said police were called after a screaming man banged on a door at a residence on Adventura Rd.

It isn't known if the man was hit by gunshots, the SIU said.

She said Sunday morning they do not know the pair's whereabouts.

The police force says the province's independent police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, is investigating the case.

"At this point, we believe she is in that vehicle unwillingly", Cannon said.

Police say the suspect fled on foot.

Police have also released the name of the victim, identified as 23-year-old Salina Ouk.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is an arm's length agency that investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
