The grim discovery of three child victims was made by their grandmother around 9:30 a.m.in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Reseda, LAPD Sgt. David Bambrick told NBC Los Angeles.

The mother of three children found dead in Reseda has been described by police as the "sole suspect" after their bodies were discovered inside an apartment Saturday morning, authorities said.

Police said initial reports suggested the children had been stabbed to death, but no official cause of death has been released.

Jovel said investigators were still working to determine a motive but are seeking the public's help locating the children's mother, 30-year-old Liliana Carrillo, who he said was a suspect in the case.

The department received reports Carrillo was driving her auto and heading north Saturday on Interstate 5 when she got in an altercation in the Bakersfield area.

Minutes after naming Carrillo as a "person of interest", the LAPD said she had committed a carjacking near Bakersfield, California, and might have been driving in a stolen Silver Toyota pickup.

The police didn't reveal the relationship between the slain kids and Carrillo.

She abandoned her auto and carjacked another vehicle, Jovel said.Carrillo was detained in the Ponderosa area of Tulare County, about 160km north of Bakersfield, police said.

"She was a flawless little angel", she said.

Carrillo was in the middle of a custody battle with the children's dad, said a family member.

"An angel shouldn't have to go that way", Cuevas said.
