Biden proposal: $174 billion for EVs, new funds for renewable power

"We strongly oppose the general tax increases proposed by the administration which will slow the economic recovery and make the USA less competitive globally - the exact opposite of the goals of the infrastructure plan".

To assist workers displaced by the transition away from fossil fuels, the plan also includes $16 billion to employ hundreds of thousands of workers to plug orphan oil and gas wells and clean up abandoned mines.

"No one making under $400,000 will see their federal taxes go up, period".

Data from payroll services firm ADP showed private USA employment jumped by 517,000 in March, slightly less than economists had expected but much better than the 176,000 gain in February and a welcome rebound after several tepid results in the pandemic recovery.

"I have nothing against millionaires and billionaires".

Biden's proposal elicited praise from the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA), which said in a statement the president's focus was "right on target". "I believe in American capitalism", he said.

Tedros said the global experts would hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss their findings. But they said they had worked to rank a number of hypotheses according to how likely they were.

"We urge both Democrats and Republicans to avoid further partisan gridlock and provide productive solutions to get an infrastructure bill passed this year", the Chamber said.

Business groups blasted Mr. Biden's intention to have them fund it. To help pay for the infrastructure spending, President Biden proposed raising the corporate tax rate to 28%.

The White House said the new EV funds will result in more US production of EV components and batteries and fund new consumer rebates and tax incentives "to buy American-made EVs, while ensuring that these vehicles are affordable for all families and manufactured by workers with good jobs".

Specifically, Biden says the plan would modernize 20,000 miles of highways, roads and main streets.

Even though Republicans refused to vote for his COVID-19 rescue plan, Mr. Biden said he was confident some would support the infrastructure program, and that he was ready to negotiate with them. "But we have to get it done".
