President Joe Biden's proposal stresses the creation of new union jobs employment through a Civilian Climate Corps the construction of affordable housing and efforts to clean up abandoned mines or cap old oil wells [File David Paul Morris Bloombe

The Labor Department reported that the US economy added 916,000 jobs last month, the largest gain in seven months, and that the unemployment rate fell to 6 percent, down from 6.2 percent in February.

US President Joe Biden said every American needs to buckle down and keep their guard up.

"There is still a long way to go".

McConnell's gripe about the corporate tax increases proposed in Biden's plan was echoed by other Republicans on Wednesday as the president outlined his proposal in a speech in Pittsburgh.

"While most of the Cabinet will have a role in helping shape and press the jobs plan, today I'm announcing that I'm asking five Cabinet members to take special responsibility to explain the plan to the American public", Biden announced during his first Cabinet meeting since being sworn in. Biden said that the economic relief in the American Rescue Plan was "temporary by design" and that the country needed to "do the hard work of building back better for good, not just for a while".
