With the United States reeling from a spate of mass shootings on a roughly weekly basis from coast-to-coast, California authorities revealed on Thursday that latest round of bloodshed that killed at least four people - including a 9-year-old child - in Orange County did not appear to defy explanation.

The suspect in the California shooting was identified as Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzalez, 44, of nearby Fullerton. He was in critical but stable condition.

When they arrived, they heard shots being fired inside, but they were not able to enter immediately.

Gonzalez, from nearby Fullerton, was staying at a motel in neighboring Anaheim and used a rented auto to arrive at the two-story office building on Lincoln Avenue, Amat said.

In a calculated move before opening fire, the suspected shooter chained shut the gates to two entrances, delaying police from getting inside, authorities said.

The shooting happened at Unified Homes, a mobile home dealer and real estate service.

In a Facebook post about the shooting on Wednesday night, the Orange Police Department said that shots were fired when officers arrived and that an "officer involved shooting occurred". A 9-year-old boy, believed to be the woman's son, was found dead in the courtyard. One woman was upstairs on an outdoor landing, a man was found inside one office building, and another woman was found in a separate office building.

"The preliminary motive is believed to be related to a business and personal relationship which existed between the suspect and all of the victims", Amat said.

Unnecessary ", he wrote on Twitter . "We won't comment on any specific bilateral discussions in this regard, though", he said. The source added at the same time, that USA experts are "quite likely" to still come to Vienna and "stay somewhere nearby" .

It is unclear if they were meant to keep the victims inside or officers out, police officials said. The victims included a 51-year-old police officer, who was one of the first to respond to the scene.

Cody Lev, who lives across the street from the office building, told the Orange County Register he heard three loud pops that were spaced out, then three more.

Ten people were killed in a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, after a shooting on March 22, while eight people were fatally shot - including six Asian women - in three Atlanta-area spas on March 16.

Last week a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, in the USA state of Colorado, and killed 10. Four people, including a child, were killed, and a suspect and another person were injured.

Scott Clark, who is owner of Calco Financial that is two doors down from Unified Homes, described Luis Tovar as hard-working.

"He's not answering his phone, neither's my niece", Mr Tovar said while anxiously waiting outside the building Wednesday night.

"I must have had an angel from God watching out for me to make me leave an hour before I usually do", he said.

He was living in a motel in Anaheim, northwest of Orange, and used a rental vehicle to get to Unified Homes, Amat said. He said they expanded to a second suite about a year ago and both offices were on the second level. Amat displayed a photo showing the suspect inside the business during a news conference Thursday afternoon, explaining police have video footage they are not releasing of him inside Unified Homes. All other counts were dismissed, and the conviction was expunged in 2017, said Lauren Gold, spokeswoman for the city of Anaheim.
