The European Union halted all non-essential travel to the bloc more than a year ago in an attempt to limit the spread of coronavirus.

Quoting that the U.S.is administering "European Medicines Agency-approved vaccines", von der Leyen told the Times that "free movement and the travel to the European Union" would be possible. "We are ready to support", Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Twitter on Sunday. But, as the Times noted, many countries normally host millions of American tourists every year, supporting a substantial number of jobs, and are expected to be eager to welcome tourists once again.

The Times said the US's rapid vaccination program, and progress in talks over how to use vaccine certificates, were behind the plan to allow the return of leisure travel from the USA to EU.

The EU has now started the process of checking its own citizens with "digital green certificates".

The revelation came in an interview conducted by the New York Times with the head of the European Union, published on Sunday.

The incident took place outside Brown's family's home in Spotsylvania County, Virginia on early Wednesday morning. Haynes, an attorney for Brown's family, said Brown was unarmed and had only a cordless house phone in his hand.

The European Union has said it wants to launch a vaccine passport for travellers, though plans have not yet been formalised.

As of last week, fully vaccinated people entering Ireland are exempt from mandatory hotel quarantine but are required to quarantine at home.

Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Americans who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can resume travel at low risk to themselves, the agency is still not recommending travel given rising COVID case counts.

The agency said about 80% of countries will now carry the "Do not travel" label, a Level 4.

"There's a bit of distance to go yet in terms of even the discussion at European Council on this", he said. "We stand in full solidarity with the Indian people!" "So by July, we will have very significant numbers of people vaccinated, so will other European member states and several other countries as well".
