People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely travel within the United States and overseas as long as they continue to take precautions like wearing a mask in public, according to new guidance released Friday by the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC now says that fully vaccinated people can travel at a low risk to themselves, and so long as COVID-19 precautions are taken - including mask-wearing and social distancing - those people can travel around the country without testing and quarantining.

The major US airlines including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and other trade groups had asked the CDC on March 22 to change its guidance to say "vaccinated individuals can travel safely".

Someone is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine. They should self-quarantine for seven to ten days if they don't get tested. Plus, almost all global USA air visitors still need to get a negative Covid-19 test before traveling to the United States.

Democrats control both chambers of Congress, but their majorities are fragile, especially in the Senate, where there are 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans.

Fully vaccinated people who are traveling internationally do not need to be tested for COVID-19 before leaving the United States unless their destination requires them to be, and they do not need to self-quarantine upon arriving in the country, federal health officials said.

"Vaccines can help us return to the things we love about life, so we encourage every American to get vaccinated as soon as they have the opportunity", Walensky added.

Meanwhile, nothing has changed for travelers who are not fully vaccinated. "Some destinations and cruise lines already have started requiring that travelers be fully vaccinated". Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March.
