The White House on Tuesday ruled out imposing any form of a coronavirus vaccine passport in the United States, but said private businesses were free to explore the idea.

"No more confusing rules, no more confusing restrictions", he said from the White House, bumping up the original promised date of May 1 by nearly two weeks. We still have a lot of work to do. "We still are in a life and death race against this virus".

The president had announced just last week that 90% of adults would be eligible for one of three approved Covid-19 vaccines by April 19, in addition to having a vaccination site within 5 miles of their home.

Psaki said the Biden administration does not support the idea of a federal mandate requiring Americans to carry vaccination credentials. He has a goal of 200 million by April 30, which is also his 100th day in office.

She said the government will be issuing "guidance" with "important answers to questions that Americans have in particular around concerns about privacy, security or discrimination".

Biden is also expected to announce that the USA administered 150 million doses in his first 75 days in office, a pace that puts him on track to surpassing his previously stated goal of reaching 200 million doses in his first 100 days.

Most states have either made vaccines available to all residents 16 and older or announced plans to do so by mid-April. Being eligible means people can sign up to reserve their place in a virtual line until they can schedule an appointment.

"My hope is before the summer is over, I'm talking to you all about how we have even access to more vaccines than we need to take care of every American, and we're helping other poor countries, countries around the world that don't have the money, the time, the expertise", Biden said. "That doesn't mean they will get it that day".

Seniors still waiting to be vaccinated should seek appointments quickly "because the lines are going to become longer" after April 19, Psaki said.

The country is averaging 3.1 million shots per day over a 7-day period, White House officials said on Monday, and reached a new milestone over the weekend with an unprecedented 4 million vaccinations recorded in one day.

Two of the three vaccines requires two doses administered several weeks apart.
