The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the us has administered 187 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine since December. Biden, a Democrat, has so far not taken up Whitmer's request and his administration continues to distribute vaccines to states based on population. "The answer to that is to really close things down, to go back to our basics, to go back to where we were last spring, last summer and to shut things down, to flatten the curve, to decrease contact with one another, to test.to contact trace".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advised the state of MI to enter another lockdown on Monday as the state suffers from the worst COVID-19 outbreak in the country. The US reported an 8% rise in new COVID-19 cases last week, the fourth week in a row that infections have increased according to a Reuters analysis. The country is now averaging more than 66,000 new cases a day - up from a low of about 52,000 daily cases in mid-March.

"What we need is for the people across our state to take this seriously and everyone to do our part", Whitmer said.

"I'm hoping it never comes to that", she said.

Whitmer told reporters on Sunday, she's calling for a temporary two-week long shutdown of in-person learning, youth sports games as well as restaurants and bars.

The Democratic governor last spring issued a monthslong stay-at-home order to curb the virus, later lifting it.

Derek Chauvin trial continues Friday; medical examiner expected to testify
A toxicology report released last June said that Mr Floyd had the painkiller fentanyl and the drug methamphetamine in his system. Baker's much anticipated testimony Friday also revealed that he found bruising and abrasions on the left side of Floyd's face.

A month-old business coalition called Reopen Michigan Safely says there is "little evidence that carefully managed offices are sources of spread".

In Monday's case update, Michigan's Department of Health and Human Services reported 3,918 adults hospitalized with coronavirus. Slinging jargon worthy of a corporate consultant, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer says her administration is working with businesses, labor and public health experts "to promulgate what that back-to-work cadence looks like", The Detroit News relays.

But White House coronavirus senior adviser Andy Slavitt said variants hitting the state are also present elsewhere.

"So our ability to vaccinate people quickly in each of those states, rather than taking vaccines and shifting it to playing whack-a-mole, isn't the strategy that public health leaders and scientists have laid out", he said. "We've asked our state for a two-week pause...despite all that we are seeing a surge of variance and that's precisely why we're really encouraging them to think about surging vaccines into the state of MI". A CDC team is on the ground, and 140 Federal Emergency Management Agency vaccinators have been dispatched to the state, he said.

However, the USA continues to see a concerning rise in new COVID-19 cases.
