Indoor bar seating, off-limits to customers in New York City since last March, will reopen on May 3.

Most coronavirus capacity restrictions on activities including retail stores, food services and gyms will end on May 19 in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, New York Governor Cuomo said on Monday.

New York's move comes just over a year after businesses across the state closed down and limited capacity to combat one of the country's worst COVID-19 outbreaks. Cuomo said. "We cannot afford to get cocky, nor can we get lax in our vaccination efforts". NY will also still require establishments to keep parties at least six feet apart.

How have Australian politicians reacted to the remarks? . "Nobody wants to see conflict between China and Taiwan or anywhere else in the world, " Dutton said.

The reopening plan, which applies across the New York, New Jersey and CT, will lift restrictions on theaters, restaurants, museums, shops and Broadway, which was specifically mentioned. Capacity as stadiums will increase to 33 percent. The 33% limit will remain in place, for now, starting that date, Cuomo said. Also, the outdoor residential gathering limit of 25 people will be removed, reverting to the social gathering limit of 500 people with space for appropriate social distancing, and the indoor residential gathering limit will increase from 10 to 50 people. Maintaining this progress is critical and in order to keep moving in a positive direction, New Yorkers must continue to take all the proper precautions. Food is also no longer a requirement with an alcohol purchase in the state.

With capacity limits largely gone, the state will continue to emphasize social distancing, per CDC recommendation, except at events where all those in attendance can present proof of full immunization or recent negative COVID test results. The Governor also announced that hair salons, barber shops and other personal care services will expand to 75 percent capacity beginning May 7. "I remind all New Yorkers who still need to get the vaccine that it's the only way to show support for our health providers who work tirelessly to get shot into people's arms - and for everyone in their community who is vulnerable to this virus".
