By Canadian Press Social Media Claims Claims of false bookings to block Albertans from getting COVID-19 vaccine under AHS watch

Alberta Health Services says it is monitoring COVID-19 vaccination no-shows following claims on social media that some people are booking several times to try to stop others from getting a shot.

Though case rates continue to decline in Alberta, the province did hit one notable marker Saturday: one in every 20 Albertans has now tested positive for COVID-19 at some point during the pandemic.

That means 51 per cent of Albertans 12 and older are now protected with a least one dose. The top doctor for Alberta said the province's positivity rate is at 6.7 per cent after approximately 9,500 tests were completed.

Sturgeon County West, the area that includes Morinville, has 43.2 per cent of its population immunized against COVID-19, or 13,108 people. The positivity rate is 8.9 per cent in the province. Dr. Hinshaw is pleased with the progress that is being made.

The province is reporting 581 hospitalizations due to the virus, with 162 in intensive care.

"It's incredibly infuriating", said Timothy Caulfield, the Canada Research Chair on Health, Law and Policy at the University of Alberta.

Hinshaw said for those with one vaccine dose the quarantine period has been reduced to 10 days, or as long as they also don't have symptoms.

Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot from a white sedan right before the child's mother pulled over to the shoulder. The boy was in a booster seat of his mother's Chevrolet sedan when he was shot.

"We are gaining momentum, but it is fragile and we can not afford to take this (long) weekend off from following the rules", she said.

Until Thursday, people were legally required to quarantine for 14 days when a close contact was confirmed to have been infected with the virus.

If that person is symptomatic they will be required to isolate and get tested.

For those who have had two vaccine doses and have had two weeks pass since their last dose, they will no longer need to quarantine after exposure if they do not have symptoms. However, if they have even minor symptoms, then they will need to isolate and go for a COVID-19 test.

"Regardless of whether someone has had one, two or no doses, all of the other restrictions in place still apply", Hinshaw said. "This is good news", Hinshaw said.

The province has now administered more than 2.27 million vaccine doses.
