Melinda Gates first met with divorce lawyers to discuss ending her marriage to Bill Gates in October 2019, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday.

The couple announced their split in a joint statement posted to Twitter last Monday, saying they "will continue to work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives".

Microsoft founder Bill Gates and wife Melinda split. Since 2011, Gates met with Epstein multiple times, including at least three times at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse, and employees of the Gates' charity visited the mansion multiple times, the Times reported at the time.

The former couple founded their philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in 2000. Following the introduction, she reportedly said to friends that she felt "uncomfortable" during the meeting, and later warned her husband that she wanted "nothing to do" with the late financier.
