Bonnie Henry says scientific data shows that pregnant people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have commonly had more severe illness - similar to someone in their 50s.

Provincial health officials identified 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Island region Tuesday.

Northern Health announced a COVID-19 school exposure for Anne Roberts Young Elementary on April 28th and 29th.

There were also 15 more deaths over the weekend, bringing the death toll to 1,596. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.

"The outbreaks at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital and Abbotsford Regional Hospital are now over".

Pregnant women are more likely to become severely ill from COVID and need to be hospitalized and, to a lesser extent, end up in intensive care than women in general, according to a year-long national study by Dr. Deborah Money, a UBC obstetrics and gynaecology professor who is a scientist at the Women's Health Research Institute. "My hope is that knowing vaccines are safe and effective at any point in pregnancy will encourage those who are now pregnant to take the opportunity to get vaccinated".

U.S. officially begins to withdraw from Afghanistan
It was not clear who was behind the attack, but the government blamed the Taliban who said they were looking into the matter. Since the start of the war they have taken heavy losses, with estimates ranging from 66,000 to 69,000 Afghan troops killed.

1,877,330 B.C. residents have now received at least one dose of a vaccine, with 91,731 total second doses. Registration is required only once.

"The justification for the waiver rests on an incorrect assumption that IP rights are a significant bottleneck to the widespread availability of COVID-19 vaccines and treatments".

Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the government remains committed to protecting its staff and students as we enter the summer months and eventually the new year.

The constitutional challenge turns on whether vulnerable people have had fair access to the vaccine.

"We are moving as quickly as possible to get vaccine into arms, which means at times, there will be bumps along the way in our rollout and delivery".

"In the meantime, we must continue our actions to stop the spread and do everything we can to relieve the pressure on our health-care workers".
